FEBRUARY 2012

We’re heading to Austin!  Bay of All Saints by first-time director Annie Eastman (produced by Davis Coombe and Diane Markrow) will be in competition at SXSW 2012! Filmed over six years, the film tells the story of three single-mothers who live in stilted shacks above the water in Bahia, Brazil. As the last of these notorious water slums is demolished, will these families face homelessness or rally for a better life?

Bay of All Saints is a completely independent effort by director/photographer/editor Annie Eastman and now you can help her get to SXSW! Visit kickstarter to give her the final push!

MARCH 2011

Wow, we have been busy since our last news update! We will be sure to add a few extra posts to catch everyone up! We are currently at work on documentaries, in addition to some very exciting short form projects.  Here are some quick highlights:

We have partnered with long-time friend and colleague, Daniel Junge, to produce a short doc for HBO currently entitled Saving Face. This documentary follows a London-based plastic surgeon as he travels to his home country of Pakistan to work with survivors of acid attacks. The film is Produced by Davis Coombe, Daniel Junge, Alison Greenberg, Sabiha Sumar, and Directed by Daniel Junge and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

We are deep in production with Producer/Director Amie Knox’s documentary about artist Clyfford Still, and the new Clyfford Still Museum currently being built in Denver. To view a teaser, please visit www.clyffordstillmuseum.org and click on Clyfford Still: A Life in Paintings.

Post is wrapping up on Chasing Ice, a feature-length documentary Produced by Paula DuPré Pesmen and Directed by Jeff Orlowski. This film is very powerful and absolutely stunning! The film follows photographer, James Balog and the Extreme Ice Survey’s documentation of retreating glaciers. We will be posting information about where/when you can see it soon. Visit http://chasingice.com/ for a trailer and details.

Stop by the Denver Art Museum, and visit the newly opened American Indian Galleries. Their collection is spectacular and extensive, with tens of thousands of artifacts. Milkhaus is proud to have created three video installations for the gallery: an interactive presentation about artist Mateo Romero, “Meet the Artists” display of artist inspirations, and “What is Native American Art?”.

November 2010

Time for the 33rd Starz Denver Film Festival!  This is our fifth year sponsoring the festival, and we had a great time creating the sponsor acknowledgment film, Jim Zonka Presents… with our co-conspirators the Mims Brothers, Light Factory and Jeff Pointer!  Check out the video, and previous sponsor videos on the Product page.

The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner has been nominated for a 2010 IDA Award! Congratulations to Davis Coombe, Daniel Junge, Henry Ansbacher, and the whole crew!

We are excited to begin post on Denver-based director Alexandre Philippe’s new documentary Paul the Octopus

September 2010

Milkhaus is happy to say that we are aren’t slowing down yet! We are wrapping up a few animated spots for the National Conference of State Legislatures, and are beginning production on a series of 20 animated spots for the Center on Congress.

August 2010

Milkhaus members recently accompanied director Alexandre Philipe when he was invited to screen his film The People Vs. George Lucas at the Pixar Campus in Emeryville, CA.  Many posed photographs were taken and we even got goody bags from the folks at Pixar!

Davis Coombe is getting ready for his second production trip to Kingston Jamaica for work on the Milkhaus produced independent documentary, Alpha Boys, about a school for wayward boys in Kinsgston that has produced some of Jamaica’s most legendary musicians.  It’s hot down there!

July 2010

Dave Krahling just got back from Louisville KY where he oversaw the video installation and production during NCSL’s annual Summit attended by over 12,000 legislators.  The event was a success and our democracy is in good hands.

Milkhaus began production on two documentaries this month.  One will document the design and construction of Colorado’s new Judicial Complex near the Civic Center and will be in production until 2013, and the other is a film about Architect Curtis Fentress and his contribution to modern airport design. Milkhaus hopes to travel the world in order to examine the many key airports he’s designed including Seoul’s Incheon International, the new LAX and Denver’s own DIA.

June 2010

Milkhaus is pleased to announce that They Killed Sister Dorothy has been nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism! Congratulations to Davis and director Daniel Junge, producer Henry Ansbacher, associate producer and assistant editor Annie Eastman and everyone else who worked with us on finishing that film!

February 2010

Milkhaus is thrilled to announce that The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner has been nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary Short Subject. Produced, edited and shot by Milkhaus’s Davis Coombe, this moving film documents an ailing former Governor’s last political effort: the legalization of Physician Assisted Suicide in Washington State. Directed by Daniel Junge and produced by Henry Ansbacher, the film is one of five nominees for the Oscar and will premiere on HBO later this year. See for yourself:

January 2010

Milkhaus will be celebrating the premiere of The People vs. George Lucas at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin Texas this March. Chad Herschberger is working with director Alexandre Philippe to finish the film before the lights go down in Austin. Produced by our friends at Exhibit A Pictures, the film is a sophisticated and humorous examination of the complex relationship between the fans of Star Wars and its controversial creator, Mr. Lucas. The film includes interviews with Neil Gaiman, Gary Kurtz, and features hundreds of fan-submitted clips making it a uniquely democratic film.
