Synopsis:

“As the leading killer of Americans, cardiovascular disease is a worthy topic of discussion. The topic gains further importance since U.S. minority populations are disproportionately affected by the disease. For example, African American men are 30 percent more likely to die from cardiovascular disease than their white counterparts.

Given the dire state of cardiovascular health in the United States, NCSL’s State Tribal Institute began hosting Legislator in the Lab meetings to help legislators learn about cardiovascular disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Participants also learn directly from medical professionals about health disparities, including information about cardiovascular disease treatment for people of color.” (ncsl.org)

This short film highlights the vital connection the Legislators in the Lab program fosters between leading doctors and facilities and state legislators across the country, and how that helps policymakers make informed decisions for their constituency.
